La PALME D’OR a été remise à Michael Haneke pour « Le Ruban blanc ». Le film traite des origines du fascisme avant 1914.

GRAND PRIX: « Le Prophète » de Jacques Audiard.

PRIX EXCEPTIONNEL DU FESTIVAL DE CANNES: Alain Resnais, 87 ans, qui vient de réaliser « Les Herbes folles ».
PRIX D’INTERPRETATION MASCULINE: Christoph Waltz, du film « Inglorious Basterds », de Quentin Tarantino.

PRIX D’INTERPRETATION FEMININE: Charlotte Gainsbourg, dans « Antichrist » du réalisateur, Lars Von Trier.

PRIX DE LA MISE EN SCENE: Brillante Mendoza, pour « Kinatay ».

PRIX DU SCENARIO: Mei Feng, pour « Nuits d’ivresse printanière », réalisé par Lou Ye.

DOUBLE PRIX DU JURY: Ex-aequo « Fish Tank », de la britannique Andrea Arnold, et « Thirst, ceci est mon sang », de Park Chan-wook, une histoire plutôt gore de vampires.

CAMERA D’OR: « Samson et Delilah », premier film de Warwick Thornton.

PRIX DU COURT METRAGE: « Arena » de Joao Salaviza.
